A bad, bad, bad vignette
I have finally written something! Pity it is utterly silly. I guess I am dedicating it to Dagmar for a million different reasons, such as the fact that she said she'd want to read it and also her amazing art. She really does deserve better, though. This is a fic about Glorfindel, Erestor, and a comb. It is NOT Glorfindel/Erestor, or vice-versa, and I want to apologize for making Erestor a bit... difficult in it. He's just annoyed because G won't shut up about Ecthelion. Also because he has a cold, reserved exterior just waiting to be melted by love, but G isn't providing said love. This is not a recent effort, nor really a speed-written one, nor indeed anything particularly good. It's just a short vignette I wrote for Lenine around Christmas for some reason I no longer recall. I think perhaps it was to annoy her: after all, few things are more annoying than receiving a "special" handmade gift and having to make the appropriate appreciative noises. Anyway, this vignette is about Glorfindel and Ecthelion, involves the word "fluffy", and is meant to go along with that Skiing Glorfindel icon I had at the time. This is not exactly a speed-written exercise, but as a ficlet it is somewhat rougher and more pointless than my usual stories. Anyway, it's about my Glorfindel in Third (or Second?) Age Rivendell, and it will make the most sense to people who have read SF8. ( Read more... ) | | Sunday, July 2nd, 2006 | | 11:11 pm |
These days, I am too busy to do any real writing. So I have decided to do some random writing, to keep my hand in. I am thereby declaring that this, my speedwriting journal, is having one of those ficathon things. The Tehta lazython 2006. Where there are no deadlines, and prompts get made up after each snippet is done. This one is about the Nirnaeth. It really peters out in the end. A completely new attempt at speedwriting! Slightly faster this time--maybe 700 words/hour--and it shows. The characterizations are particularly... exactly like all my other characterizations. All my characters tend to be obsessive and a little clueless. Anyway. I guess this might be the first scene of a Maedhros + Fingon friendship fic. Even though it takes place in Valinor, I am using the Sindarin names to make things less obscure. ( Gay lovers? No, belay partners. )And now that I have gone and reread the Beleg/Turin/Mablung fic I kind of wish I had worked on that instead. | | Wednesday, August 17th, 2005 | | 1:02 am |
Wow. It sure has been a while! Anyway, here is the next bit, which took far more effort than I want this ficlet to take until I decided to give up and just post it as is, mostly because polishing that paragraph of--what is it? PG-13ness? Rness?--would have taken me far longer than the rest of the story combined. It is official: I cannot speedwrite porn. Actually, I suspect my general level of interest in writing porn is really very minor, and my lack of personal interest in the contents of Turin's pants is not helping. Neither is the fact that Turin is, IMO, a crap shag. But enough whining. Just be forewarned, for me this is not about the porn, but about the interpersonal weirdness. I am not sure how well that is coming through, however. ( A romantic waterfall scene! )Hardly an exciting cliffhanger, is it? Although I myself am interested in what will happen next. | | Thursday, July 21st, 2005 | | 12:11 am |
All right, here is the start of what I am tentatively calling Chapter Three. No smut yet, but almost certainly in the next entry. The Story So Far may be read in the previous post; I have also put a small summary up top. ( Turin Makes His Move, Part II ) | | Saturday, July 16th, 2005 | | 7:40 pm |
The story so far
Did a quick-ish pass over what I had written so far, made some small changes, and decided on chapter divisions. Sticking Chapters One and Two here now in preparation for in-progress Chapter Three... ( The story so far... ) | | Wednesday, June 29th, 2005 | | 3:37 am |
Entry #4
Some 1,200 words, written slower than my previous breakneck pace of 500 words/hour. Oh well. Still much faster than my other fics. ( Turin makes his move. )I think the next scene will have to involve Turin talking to Mortal-loving Beleg about how his advice worked out. Unless I can think of some more complications. | | Saturday, June 25th, 2005 | | 3:16 am |
Speedwriting #3
All right, a bit more. Another hour, and some 700 words of Turin being bored. I have a pretty sure idea of what will happen next, but I am too tired to take this episode to its natural conclusion right now. Anyway, it might have to happen off-screen, as Saeros bores even me. Not unlike Turin, I want to get back to Beleg. Hopefully the readers won't be quite as bored, although as usual with this speed writing business I find my characterizations flabby. ( If I ever work this into a fic, I think the title will have to include the codeword 'friendship.' ) | | Wednesday, June 15th, 2005 | | 2:46 am |
Speedwriting #2
This was harder. Still, almost 500 words in an hour is nothing to sneeze at by my standards. Since this scene is pretty much done now, I shall post it. It's really kind of liberating to just write this and throw it out there. Is it confusing? Too blatant? I don't care! And I have no idea what will happen next! Whee! ( Platonic friendship is a beautiful thing. ) | | Monday, June 13th, 2005 | | 1:13 pm |
Speedwriting entry #1
Welcome to my sockpuppet account! I have cleaned this speedwritten mess up a little and added a chunk at the end. I think it would be fair to say that this represents two hours' work. The story so far clearly owes something to my general Elf universe, in particular Ecthelion's Alqualonde days. Main problems I can see: there's very little atmosphere, and the characterization is a bit fuzzier than I usually like it. But I will perservere, no matter what people say! I bet I can work these guys into a huge melodramatic muddle with only a minimum of advance planning.Anyway, comments are welcome but certainly not needed. (And that includes you, oh fearless beta.) ( Adolescence. It's a troublesome time. ) |
